Remove the sand bund put across paddy fields by Army: requests Vayalkudiyiruppu farmers

Help us by removing the sand bund put by the Army during “Jeyasikuru” Military Operation, the farmers of Vayalkudiyirrupu in Thachadampan, Odduchuddan had requested.

The Operation Jayasikuru was staged by the Sri Lankan Army in 1997. Vayalkudiyiruppu village is located in Thachadampan GS Division in Odduchuddan Divisional Secretary’s area.

The Army constructed a sand bund around 3 kilometers long across paddy fields. Circular bunds were constructed for artillery bases. Even after 19 years from the end of the operation, the bunds were not removed. we are experiencing lot of difficulties during cultivation times. Help us to undertake agricultural activities by removing the bund, they said.

The Divisional Secretary, Odduchuddan , Aniruthnan  when contacted said that they do not have sufficient funds for this and NGO held had to be sought.
