The Yala cultivation coming under the irrigation of the Muthaiyankaddu Tank, in Mullaitheevu will not be affected. The renovation of the Tank bund is in its final stages of completion. There will be no problem of reservoir water, said S.Sriskantharasa, Deputy Director of Irrigation, Mullaitheevu.
The renovation work of Muthaiyankaddu Tank commenced last year under Bund security and water resources planning concept under Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment with Rs. 600 million funding from World Bank.
As the renovation works were continuing, the farmers were worried about losing the yala cultivation.
Commenting on this, Deputy Director of Irrigation, Mullaitheevu, S.Sriskantharasa said that, “All major work on the bund had been completed. When the monsoon rains come, there will be no problem in reservoir water in the Tank. Terracing is in progress to prevent soil erosion. Road also repaired and laid with Tar. The Farmers who are to engage in Yala, need not worry, he said.
