In a context where, Army is to release further 725 acre land, 1,500 families could be resettled there, but large Army camps will not be removed, and the people have to co-exist with the Army, said Jaffna District Secretary, N.Vethanayagam
Out of the 971 families, 641 had said they are landless. They will be settled in the 60 acre received from Cement Corporation and housing scheme will be provided to them.
He further said there 971 displaced families in the camps and 7,500 are outside. 9,522 families are to be resettled.
Although there activities undertaken to speedily release 725 acre, people will be settled in them, but the large Army Camp will not be released and the people had to live near such army camps, he said.
