A resolution calling for the holding of Referendum in North and East to find out the opinions of the people of North and East, adopted by the Northern Provincial Council has been sent to UN General Secretary. The General Secretary’s Office acknowledged the receipt of the memorandum. A Human Rights Organization which had submitted the Memorandum of the NPC also had demanded that a International Investigation had to be created to inquire into all Human Rights violations in Sri Lanka and that a referendum to find out the aspirations of the People of the North and East should be held in North and East under the monitoring of UN.
The NPC resolution calling for intervention of UN has been forwarded by the French HR Organization to the Secretary General of the UN. The Secretary General’s Office had acknowledged the receipt of the copy of the Memorandum annexed with the letter of the French Organization.
The demand of the French Organization is that the memorandum of the NPC should be included in agenda of the 39th sessions of the UNHRC.
The Sri Lankan President has already announced that he will propose a new reconciliation plan releasing both the Army and the LTTE. A human Rights Organization had got into the arena with a demand that the NPC’s Resolution also should be included to be debated in the HRC session.
It is learnt that the resolution of NPC had been forwarded through a mechanism for forwarding the affairs of non-UN member countries.
