Rishad urges UN to come forward to bring justice to Tamil and Muslim people

The uprising rally for justice “From Pottuvil to Polikandy” is a bridge to the Tamil-Muslim relationship. In view of this struggle of the Tamil-Muslim community, the UN should come forward to provide justice to the ethnic minorities affected by the Sri Lankan government’s repression. This is the duty of the UN, said Rishad Bathiudeen, President of the All Ceylon People’s Congress and Member of Parliament for the Vanni District.

“This government is using abusive methods to target ethnic minorities. Against this, our All Ceylon People’s Congress had issued a statement in support of the massive public awareness rally “from Polikandy to Pothuvil” organized jointly by the Northern and Eastern civil society organisations and Tamil parties demanding justice for the UN. We also called on the Muslim people to take part in this rally without fail.

In this context, Muslims and Muslim politicians have taken part in the uprising to publicly express their grievances against the government in accordance with our call. Large numbers of Muslims in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, Mannar and Jaffna districts have taken to the streets to rally and show their full support.

On behalf of my party, I would like to thank all the Muslims who joined hands with the Tamil people and took part in the struggle to win our rights.
