The statement of TNA leader that, “Unitary state system is unacceptable” had drawn much fire on a wide front from Sinhala leaders.

Vasutheva Nanayakara – No space should be given to political solution on a federal basis. Devolution of power should be made within unitary state system. 13th amendment should be implemented in full. Powers including State Planning, Security, Finance and Administration should be vested with the Centre.

Dinesh Gunawadene : President and Prime Minister had promised not to go beyond unitary state.
Sampanthan makng demands with only 16 seats, will only create political crises. We cannot allow fulfilling Sampanthan’s demands.

Minister Champika Ranawakka: Although some people are spreading Separatist ideas, we believe that the  representatives of main Tamil Parties including TNA, like a voyage away from separatism. TNA should clarify what they mean by  “maximum possible power devolution”.
