Scholarship fund wasted by the improper act of the Governor, judgment by Justice Ilancheliyan
The Jaffna High Court Judge M.Illancheliyan has commented on a case that a Scholarship granted to Sri Lankan had been wasted due to the improper act of the Northern Governor and the high level Officers had also connived with the Governor in a disgraceful manner.
He has also ordered that Northern Province Governor to take action to approve the leave without any delay for the Northern Province Additional Director of Education, so that he could proceed to Australia to continue the Scholarship granted to him.
The Additional Director of Education, Mariathas Jegu, was awarded a 2-years Scholarship through the Department of External Resources maintained by the Australian Government under the Sri Lankan Ministry of Finance, had obtained all required approval and leave from Northern Governor and had proceeded to Australia on 2.10.2017.
In this context the Secretary of the NP Ministry of Education, Provincial Director of Education and the Secretary to the NP Governor had sent letters to the effect that M, Jegu is under inquiries for fraud under NELSIP project, the leave granted by the Governor had been rejected and hence to send him back to the country and he had been sent back to the country from Australia.
The said officer had filed an application to declare the above letters Illegal, and null and void and to order the Governor to implement the leave granted on 18.08.2016. It is this case that was taken up before the Judge yesterday.
