The breeding rate of fish and prawns are very much affected by sea-planes landing in the Batticloa Lagoon and as a consequence their livelihood is affected, said Lagoon fishermen in Batticaloa.

In view of the inflow of local and foreign tourist, sea plane services are conducted four days a week, by Cinnamon Air services. The vibrations of the planes  are  destroying the eggs of prawns and fish, and we have taken this to the attention of Batticaloa District MP, Pon Selvarajah, they said.

When contacted Pon Selavarajah, he said he had informed the Aquatic Resources Department regarding this and action will be taken once a reply is received from them.
