A resolution has been adopted in the DCC meeting that the security Forces cannot acquire lands in the province without the approval of the NPC. If any activity is undertaken in breach of this resolution, court action will be taken against them, said the CM, C.V.Wigneswaran.
The DCC meeting for Jaffna District was held yesterday in the District Secretariat, Jaffna presided by co-chairs, Cm, C.V.Wigneswaran, State Minister, Mrs. Wijekala Maheswaran and MP, Mawai Senathyrasa.
Serveral people including MP, S.Sritharan, MPc Vinthan Knagaratnam insisted that the Navy’s attempt to acquire little more than 18 acre land in Madaitheevu should be stopped immediately and the lands handed over to the owners.
The Divisional Secretary informed the house that the said acquisition was handed over to him by the Secretary to Ministry of Lands and actions were undertaken on this directive, and added that he had intimated the protest of the people to the Secretary of the Ministry of Lands.
Commenting at this juncture the CM said that if any order is received from the president to provide land for the Security Forces. It should be informed to us. Under 13th amendment lands could not granted without the approval of the NPC. National Security or any other reason such orders should be intimated to us. If action taken in breach of this we will not hesitate to take Court Action, the CM said.
