Security Forces incessantly searching for weapons of Tigers: Disappointment yesterday at Vavuniya

The Security Forces have intensified recently the search for weapons believed to be buried by Liberation Tigers in several parts of Vanni.

Yesterday also the navy was engaged in such a search in Vavuniya. Activities for the search for weapons were pursued in a private land opposite the Sinnamman Temple at the Library Road, Koomankulam. The search follows a tip off received by the Navy Headquarters, it is learnt. Navy personnel, from Poonawa Navy Camp in Anuradhapura, undertook this search.

This search was conducted with the approval of the Court and continued till around 6.00 p.m. Although excavations were done to a depth of 10′ nothing was found. It is reported that arrangements are being made to excavate the other parts of the land it is reported.

Vavuniya Police provided the security for excavation site. Reporters were not allowed to see the excavation. Tension prevailed among the people of the area as the operation was carried out all of a sudden.
