Senior Journalist Thiruchchelvam departs to meet his creator

Senior journalist E.R.Thiruchchelvam passed away yesterday noon in Jaffna. He was 83 at his death. A respected journalist in Sri Lanka, Late Thiruchelvam is an Arts Graduate of Kolkota University. Later he received Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Drama and stage.

Having Leftist thoughts, he joined the editorial Board of Eelanadu News paper in the early part of the sixties.

He identified himself in different roles as a column writer of Sinthamany weekly, Member of the Editorial Board of ” Thisai”, Senior Assistant Editor of Eelanadu News Paper and the main lecturer for the Journalism Course conducted by the Extra Curricular education unit.

Well versed in Tamil and English Languages, he is an old boy of Jaffna Central College, and also served as a teacher in the Jaffna Hindu College.

A book written by him ” Ithazhiyal Adippadaikal” (Basics of Journalism) saw publication recently.

His last rites will be held at his home in Aseervatham Lane, Jaffna at 2.00 p.m. He leaves 5 children.
