A situation of coalition rule in most of the Sabais in North and East, possible regime change in the South due to victory of Mahindha

In a context where the Tamil National People Front has won considerable number of seats in several Sabais, of North and East, there is no possibility of TNA forming the government alone.

Although, the TNA has comparatively won more seats, It has not secured the strength to form the Government alone in most of the Sabais. Hence coalition governments has to be formed in most of the Sabais.

Out of the total 408 seats, the TNA was able to secure only around 152 seats. The TPNF has won around 80 seats. .

Tamil National People Front has captured seats in several wards held by TNA and EPDP.    Tamil National People Front also has won considerable number of seats from the electorates of TNA MPs and NPC Members.

Meanwhile it has been reported that a state of confusion had been caused in the South by the unexpected victory of Pothujana Peramuna led by former President Mahindha Rajapakse.

Mahindha’s party has come to the front beating SLFP led by President Maithripala Sirisena and the UNP led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, in most of the seats by large margins.

This victory has stabilized Mahindha’s position in Politics. It is reported that, because of this  a confusion has developed among the Government ranks, and a situation is created  where  several SLFP MPs gearing up jump to the side of the Mahindha faction.

Although the President and the Prime Minister had undertaken propaganda revealing the frauds and corruption of Mahindha and other Rajapakses, all those have gone invalid in this election.

These election results have demonstrated that large number of the Buddhist Sinhala people have expected changes. It has caused a massive confusion, so much defeat has been experienced with both SLFP and UNP in the Government.

On the basis of this, it is suggested that a situation has been generated where the UNP may have to bear the responsibility of forming a Government. In a context where the SLFP has met a great set back, the President had called his important Ministers to Colombo for consultation.
