Tamil National Alliance (TNA) urged the Visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry that political settlement should be reached on the basis of shared sovereignty within combined North and East and considering it as historical Tamil territory.
TNA made this request during its meeting with him at Kerry’s hotel in Colombo today.
TNA delegation comprised TNA Leader R.Sampanthan, Chief Minister of the Northern Province Justice C.V.Wigneswaran, TNA Parliamentarians Suresh Premachandran, Selvam Addaikalanathan, Mavai. Senathirajah and M.A.Sumanthiran.
TNA also requested that the US must exert pressure on the government to expedite the finding a resolution of problem of the political prisoners, land issues, resettlement etc.
Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal tweeted, “Sec. @JohnKerry heard from R. Sampathan, CM Wigneswaran and other TNA leaders on their assessment of reconciliation efforts and road ahead,”
Kerry, who left the country today after concluding his brief visit, already held talks with President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several other government officials.
