Southern fishermen who were arrested for torching 8 vadis of Tamil Fishermen in Nayaaru, left the Nayaaru are with all their belongings under heavy police protection.
After 8 vadis of Tamil fishermen were burned down by southern fishermen from Vennappuwa, tension was prevailing in the area.
A part of the southern fishermen who were engaged in fishing in Nayaaru area have started to leave the area on their own from yesterday evening. Three fishermen were arrested accused of burning the vadis of Tamil fishermen.
In this context the southern fishermen loaded their fishing and other equipment and were getting ready to leave the area, when, the Tamil fishermen asked them to pay compensation for their losses and try to prevent their leaving.
A large contingent of police was massed in the area and the southern fishermen left under the heavy security of the Police. A tense situation prevailed in the area and police were engaged in security duties.
