A resolution has been adopted by local fishermen that the Southern fishermen should stop catching beach de mer immediately in the seas off Vadamaradchchi East.
In a context where it is said that due to the beach de mer fishing undertaken continuously by the Southern fishermen in the seas off Vadamaradchchi East and Maruthankerny areas, the livelihoods of the local fishermen are being affected, this resolution had been adopted, yesterday.
A special discussion regarding this matter was held at Maruthankerny Divisional Secretariat yesterday presided by MP, M. A.Sumanthiran.
The Resolution was passed unanimously, following the local fishermen insisted on licenses issued by Fisheries and Aqua resources Department should being cancelled and catching Beach de mer in these areas should be banned completely.
They also insisted that the Fisheries Department should take action accordingly and they warned that if the fishing activities of the Southern fishermen are continued, large scale struggles will be undertaken.
