Muliwaikkal, the final battle field of the 30 years old civil war was visited yesterday by the Special Representative for transitional period justice, Pablo de Krees.
He inspected the menhirs inscribed with the names of people who lost their lives during the final war, the erecting of which was banned by court action of police. The parish priest of Sinnappar Church in Muliwaikkal was subjected to continuous inquiries as from May 19th .
The Special Representative of UN for Transitional period justice met and had a discussion with parish priest. During the discussion, he had got himself updated with the details of the situations prevailing in Mulaitheevu District areas including Mulliwaikkal and the about the military presence in them.
During this visit a memorandum was handed over to Krees regarding a request to take action to release the lands acquired by the Navy in Mulliwaikkal area, in extent of 617 acre including 367 acre belonging to people.It is notable that the government issued a gazette notification to acquire 672 acre land already occupied by Navy.
He visited areas like Mulliwaikkal, Ambalavan Pokkanai and Valaignar Madam, where the final war was fought.
