Sri Lankan naval agencies on Monday detained four Rameswaram fishermen and their mechanised trawler on charges of trespassing into the territorial waters of the island nation.
Marine police sources at Mandapam said the fishermen were held off Katchatheevu and were taken to Talaimannar naval base for interrogation.
U Arulanandam of the Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen said the detained fishermen were handed over to department of fisheries and aquatic resources at Mannar. They would be produced before a court in Mannar, he stated.
After Diwali, Sri Lankan naval agencies have detained 51 Tamil Nadu fishermen. (Times of India)
