Sri Lankan navy arrests 37 Indian fishermen

The Sri Lankan navy today evening apprehended 33 fishermen from Nagapattinam and their five boats, sending out a strong message to Indian fishermen that the Island nation is not going to tolerate any more trespassing into their waters.

The fishermen were detained while fishing in the Lankan waters near Jaffna and were taken to Kangesanthurai naval base, said U Arulanandam of the Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen in Pamban, Rameswaram.

The fishermen may be produced before a Sri Lankan court tomorrow.
