Statues of Hindu deities smashed up / stolen in three places in Mannar

On the “Sivan Rathri” Night yesterday Statues of  Hindu deities were broken up and few stolen in three places in Mannar. In a context where the Hindus  observing the “Sivan Rathry” , this vandalism has occurred day before yesterday.

Three statues from the Lingeswarar Temple built by the IPKF in 1988 period on Mannar – Thalai Mannar Road, has been stolen. Alaiyady Pillaiyar Temple located at Keeri on Mannar – Thalvupadu main Road for 18 years has been broken up by unidentified persons.

The Pilayar statue which was newly installed in front of Thalladi runway, after several statues were repeatedly smashed up by vandals, had been stolen from there.

At time when all arrangements were completed to observe Sivan Rathry, these incident had caused much sorrow among people.Complaints relevant to these incidents had been made with the police, and the police has visited the locations and continuing with inquiries.
