Study courses at the Kilinochchi Faculty of Tchnology of the Jaffna University commenced yesterday.
In a context where Agricultural and Engineering faculties of the Jaffna are already operating in Ariviyal Nagar in Kilinochchi, the Technological Faculty joined them starting the study courses yesterday. On a countrywide basis, 211 students have been admitted to the faculty from 23 districts, said the VC, Mrs. Vasanthy Arasaratnam.
Elaborating further she said that this will constitute the 10th faculty of the Jaffna University and 3rd on a country wide basis. All facilities are provided to the students here including hostel facilities for the first year students.
The construction of buildings in 400 acres will commence next year and when the works are completed the 2nd year students will be able to continue their studies there. Already there are two hostels for male and female student. Two more will be built next year.
Equipment worth about 13 million were purchased last year. This year we will purchase 120 million worth of equipment. University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education are of much assistance and providing us with much needed financial aids, she said.
