Support release of OHCHR report: TNA to India, US

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian, Suresh K. Premachandran has sated that the Tamil National Alliance has urged India and the US to support the release of the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka. It has also appealed to these countries to support the implementation of its recommendations.

He was speaking to the media at a media meeting held at the Jaffna Press Club.

Addressing the media, he stated that the TNA welcomed the recent resolution of the Northern Provincial Council on the issue of genocide resolution passed by the Northern Provincial Council last Tuesday. He went on: “There is nothing about Tamil issues in the [President’s] 100-day programme. Our position is that Tamil people should be resettled, political prisoners should be released. Neither the government nor the army has any intention of letting Tamil people, of whom thousands have had their properties seized by the State, live in their land. He added that by not allowing Tamils to resettle in their own lands, the current government was also contributing to genocide.

He explained:  “If people cannot resettle, they have no other choice than to leave,” he said. “You cannot settle a fisherman in a forest. You cannot dump a farmer in the middle of the road. The purpose of doing this is to make these people flee and find a different livelihood somewhere else.”
