supreme court stays conduct of jallikattu in tamil nadu

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Center’s notification on allowing the conduct of popular bull-taming sport Jallikattu.

Last week, the Environment Ministry had issued a notification by modifying its existing 2011 order that included bills in the list of animals “shall not be exhibited or trained as performing animal.” The notification however, added that bulls must be treated properly and not subjected to cruelty.

 The sport is followed with much vigor in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.Political watchers and activists saw the government move in the light of upcoming elections in the state.(INDIAN EXPRESS)
