Effort to form a common front between EPRLF led by Suresh Premachandran and the All Ceylon Tamil Congress led by Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam, has fizzled out, just after 21 days from the start of the effort and that the two faction will go it alone in the LG Elections, it is reported.
As a consequence of this split, EPRLF is to contest the LG Election in alliance with Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and some dissidents subjected to disciplinary action by ITAK.
Following the TPC meeting in the Jaffna Library Auditorium, Leader of EPRLF, Suresh Premachandran and AllCeylon Tamil Congress, Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam jointly met the press and declared that the two parties will contest the LG Election in conjunction with Civil Organizations. At that time they also said the TPC will support their alliance.
However the Co-Chairs of the TPC, C.V.Wigneswaran and Vasantharajah had publicly announced that the TPC will not support the alliance between EPRLF and ACTC.
But the effort to form the alliance continued with both parties consenting to contest on a common symbol.
However, after Suresh urgently went and returned from India, had started to insist contesting under the symbol of TULF.
The ACTC had refused to contest under TULF with Anandasangary as the Secretary. They suggested contesting under either the EPRLF symbol or ACTC Symbol.
Conflict of the symbol has dissolved the alliance and it is now confirmed that the EPRLF will contest the LG election with TULF.
