Large number of military weapons was recovered from a house in Jaffna which is operating as an office of the PLOT in Jaffna. An old man, a member of the PLOT has been arrested from the house by the police , who are proceeding with inquiries.
This house is located on the Hospital Road, Jaffna and owned by a private person.
Water bottles, a T-56 Rifles, 06 Magazines, rounds for T-56, and Walkie-Talkie used by the Army were among the weapons captured from the house. Following these detection, a 62 years old person called Sivakumar was arrested on suspicion.
This particular house was in the forced control of PLOT Member Pawn and it had operated as the office of the PLOT during war period. After war, Pawn had continued to occupy the house and refused to vacate it. A court case was filed by the owner and when the owner went to claim the house with the help of the police they found a rifle in the house and the Jaffna police was informed of the find. Jaffna police searched the house and found the cache and arrested pawn at Manipay.
The Leader of the PLOT, Sitharthan, when contacted over the incident said that although the arrested person is a member of PLOT for long time but he had stayed away from the activities of the Party. All members have been ordered to hand over all arms, and if someone is still having the arms, the party disassociates itself from such holdings.
The police are conducting their inquiries from an angle whether the arrested person was involved in the robberies that occurred in the North recently.
