Tamil people should reach a consensus in handling President’s Election, insist independent group

An independent group formed by the Tamil People’s Council has commenced its meetings with Tamil politicians in the Tamil Nationalist arena in order to reach a consensus in handling the Presidential election.

This has been announced in a press release issued by the Tamil People’s Council yesterday.

This group consists of Swamy Sithakasaanantha (Sinmaya mission, Jaffna), Rt. Rev. Bishop Ponnaiah (Bishop of Trincomalee Diocese), Rev. Thavathiru Akathiyar of Then Kayilai Aatheenam, Rev. Fr. Jebaratnam( Vicar General, Jaffna Diocese), AAL, S.A.Jothylingam (Social and Political Analyzer), Prof. K.T.Ganeshalingam (Head of Political Faculty, University of Jaffna), Dr.K.Kuruparan ( Head of the Law Faculty , University of Jaffna), Mrs. Kosalai Mathan( Lecturer, Law Faculty, University of Jaffna), Mr. Nilanthan( Political Analyzer), Mr. Kurunathan ( Social Activist, Batticaloa), Mr. Kajan (Social Activist, Trincomalee, Dr. Sivapalan( Teaching Hospital, Jaffna.

In order to  reach a consensus in how the Tamil People should handle the Presidential Election, this group met the Leader of TNA, Sampanthan in Colombo yesterday. This meeting extended to around 3 hours.

In the evening, the  Group met the Leader of Tamil National People Front, Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam, with the presence of the Secretary of the Party, S.Kajendrakumar , and  AALs, Kandeepan and Suhash.

 Both the meetings had been described to be very cordial.

It is also announced that this group will meet today, the Tamil Makkal Koodany, led by Its Secretary General Justice C.V.Wigneswaran. The meetings with other Tamil Political Parties will follow.

Meanwhile, it is also announced that this Group will take in other members in accordance with the prevailing exigencies.
