Tamil speaking District Judges swear in as High Court Judges

Three Tamil speaking District judges were sworn in as High Court Judges yesterday.

13 judges appointed as High Court judges took their oaths before the Chief justice, Priyasath Dep, yesterday, Friday. Thus,  three District Judges from North and East, Mrs. Srinithy Nanthasekaran, N.M.M.Abdullah and the Senior State Counsel of the Attorney General’s Department Denis Santhan Soosaithasan

First appointed to Vavuniya in 2002 , judge Mrs Srinithy Nanthasekaran with a special grade of the Judicial Services, has thus far served as Magistrate and District Magistrate in Jaffna, Kayts, Colombo. Taking over as the HC Judge, Kalmunai on Monday will also serve in the sittings of Appeal courts, of Kalmunai and Baticaloa.

Trincomalee  District Judge N.M.M.Abdula, also in special grade of the Judicial Services, who had served as Magistrate and District Judge in North and East, will take over as the HC judge, Vavuniya.

A native of Ilavalai and an Old Boy of St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, Senior State Counsel Denis Santhan Soosaithasan is being inducted into the Judicial Services by virtue of his 14 years service as Senior State Counsel, as a HC Judge.

An expert in Civil and Criminal procedure codes,  will take over as the HC Judge of the Baticaloa Civil Appeal HC.

He is being inducted into the Judicial Services by the tradition of inducting Senior State Counsels as HC Judges.

Judges who delivered judgment in Vidya’s Case transferred out

Justices Manickavasagar Ilancheliyan, Annalingam Premsankar and Balendran Sasi Mahendran, who delivered the judgment in Vidya’s case have been transferred respectively to Trincomalee, Jaffna and Colombo.
