Thousands of Tamils demonstrated in Geneva today to protest against the deferral of report by UN investigators into allegations of mass atrocities in Sri Lanka. The demonstrators also called for a referendum to decide on Tamils’ future in the Island of Sri Lanka.
The Tamils, who had come from all over Europe, participated in the demonstration held outside the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Demonstrators carried banners and placards condemning the on-going militarisation, land grabs, sexual violations of Tamil women and disappearances by the Sri Lankan security forces.
They also burnt the effigy of Sri Lankan President Maithiripala Srisena.
