The year was 1996….. same month same day……
Kirushanthy, a tender flower in the form of an A/L student of Chundikuli Girls College Jaffna, was returning home after sitting for the Chemistry paper of G.C.E(O/L).
Her mother was waiting at home for her and her brother, to take lunch after the morning fasting.
Time just keep on moving but no sign of Kirushanthy.
All of a sudden all hell broke loose on her mother, for a neighbour Kirubamoorthy came in a rush to break the news that Kirushanthy is being detained at the Chemmany check point. Without wasting time she rushes to the check post with her son on a bicycle and the neighbor Kirupamoorthy.
Neither Kirushanthy nor the three persons who went in search of her returned home.
After inquiries it came to light the Kirushanthi was gang raped, killed with the other three and all four buried at Chemmnay. some soldiers were arrested and a case filed against them. One soldier Somarathna, who gave information, on which more than 15 human remains were unearthed, was sentenced to death.
It is notable that, this massacre was perpetrated during the rule of former President Chandrika Bandaranayanayake.
The commemoration organized by MPc, M.K. Sivajilingam will be held on 7th at the spot where the victims were supposed to buried.
