A decision has been reached in the NPC’s sitting yesterday that, Sinnaththurai Thavarasa will continue as the Leader of the Opposition.
UPFA Secretary, Mahindha Amaraweera had sent a letter to CM and Leader of the House, through the Governor requesting to appoint Thavanathan in place of Thavarasa.
But Thavarasa also had written a letter stating that most of the Opposition members had indicated to him that they like him continuing as the Leader of the Opposition.
The matter was discussed in the Council’s activities Committee and a decision reached and it was decided announce the decision in the yesterday’s sitting.
The Opposition Leader post is not decided by any provisions of Law. It is not stated also in Constitution or PC law. Citing precedence in other PCs, the Leader of the House announced that Thavarasa will continue as the Opposition Leader of the NPC.
