The Army has agreed to release most of the lands under their control in Vallikamam North. Out of a total 6,750 acre land under the control of the Army, 1,100 acre had been already released. Army Commander, Lt.Gen. A.W. J. C. De Silva had consented to release most of the balance 5,650 acre, in the presence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.
A meeting was held in the Parliament Complex on handing over of the lands to the people.Primier Ranil Wickremasinghe, TNA Leader Ra.Sampanthan, Minister of Re-settlements, D.M.Swaminathan, Minister Raub Hakeem, State Minister Wijekala Maheswaran, and MP, M.A.Sumanthiran participated in this meeting. The Army Commander Kirishantha de Silva and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera were called for the meeting.
In this meeting the TNA strongly insisted that the lands of the people be released to them without further delay. In reply, the Army Commander said that, the balance 590 acre, of the already promised 1,100 acre are to be released immediately and most of the balance lands except those with strategically importance to the Army will be released soon. He also promised that he will continue to pay his attention on releasing places with High Security Importance like Myliddy harbour area.
Meanwhile, people will start resettling in the 590 acre land released by the Army, in Vally. North and Vally East today. These lands were inspected by the District Secretary and other officials yesterday.
