We cannot accept the stance of the government which behave like nothing is happening while the struggles of the people are growing ever stronger. The president or the ministers should provide due answers to the people, said the Chief Minister of the NPC, C.V. Wigneswaran to the Ambassador of Switzerland for Sri Lanka and Maldives.
A meeting between the CM and Ambassador occurred at the residence of the CM located at Temple Road, at around 5.00 p.m., yesterday. Following the meeting the CM talked to the media about the meeting where he had informed the media as above.
Elaborating further he said, that he had pointed out to the Ambassador that, more than 250 Sinhala fishermen had transgressed into areas like Nayaru, Kokkilai and Kokuthuduwai in Mulaitheevu District. The Fisheries Minister had given approval for this this kind of action will create more problems among the people.
People are engaged in struggles in Mullaitheevu, Mannar and Vavuniya demanding information on their missing relative and release of their lands. But the government is not showing any concern towards them. Ambassador said that he is aware of this. The people were oppressed so far. Now in the democratic environment they have become enthusiastic to receive their rights through struggles. Although this is a good signal the government should be concerned about them. The Ambassador had promised to talk about them with the government.
