TNA submits appeal to Speaker: Don’t  acknowledge Mahindha as Leader of the Opposition

A memorandum had been submitted by TNA to the Speaker Karu Jayasooriya appealing not to acknowledge Mahindha Rajapakse as the Leader of the Opposition.

The Speaker announced in the Parliament last Tuesday that he will approve Mahindha Rajapakse as the Leader of the Opposition and Mahindha Amaraweera as the  Chief Whip of the Opposition.

A memorandum has been submitted in opposition of this decision by TNA MP,M.A.Sumanthiran.

He has pointed out in this memorandum that in the context of the Leader of the UPFA, Mithripala Sirisena is officiating as the President and Leader of the Cabinet, UPFA cannot be considered as the Opposition.

Further, the Leader of the UPFA, in addition to serving as the Leader of the State and as a Member of the Cabinet holding 5 Ministerial post under him, and hence, UPFA cannot be acknowledged as the Opposition Party, he has pointed out.
