We cannot support activities to reduce or grab the powers of Provincial Councils, the TNA has had categorically stated. Development Special Provisions Draft Act had been sent for obtaining the consent of the Provincial Councils. This act has been constituted in a way that will withdraw the development powers of the Provincial Councils through the new Constitution. Tamil Civil society had already warned that North and East Provincial Councils should not accept this act.
Revealing the stance of the TNA regarding this, its Spokesman, M.A.Sumanthiran said that the powers of the Provincial Councils will be affected by this Draft Act. The Powers of Provincial Councils had been affected already. They should not be weakened further. The TNA does not oppose Development, but it opposes the reduction of power or grabbing back the power.
