Toppled Water Tank in Kilinochchi to be released by the Army

The water tank area at Kakkai Kadai Junction is to be released by the Army on the 30th to the Irrigation Department.

Notice has been sent to District Secretary and the Officer in charge of the Irrigation Department by the Ministry of Defence.

In a context where the main water Tank of Kilinochchi being blasted down during the last stages of war, the area in extent of 40 Perch was under the Army control to date. Remained to this day as an exhibit to the Army will be handed over on the 30th to the Irrigation Department.

The water tank which was in existence was blasted down during hostilities in 1996. A new tank was built up in 2004 and was later blasted down during the final stage of the war.

The felled water tank was maintained as a memorial by the Army and large numbers of southern tourists used to visit the site and look at the fallen tank.
