TPP starts fasting protest over witness not attending court so far

A Tamil Political prisoner (TPP) detained at the Jaffna prison started fasting protest from yesterday evening. He was arrested in 2006 and cases were filed in Pollonnaruwa and Jaffna in 2009. In the Pollonnaruwa court had sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment. The intelligence officer who is the main witness had not attended the court so far.

Hence the TPP had commenced a fasting protest stating that his case is unnecessarily extended and that the Attorney General is cheating by not bringing the witness to court. He is detained in the Magazine prison and he was brought to Jaffna for his case, when he started his fast. He had demanded that he be made available with a chance to air his grievances to the Prime Minister’s Assistant.
