TPPs refuse to NPC member’s request to give up fasting

The TPPs who have undertaken a Fast Unto Death at the Anuradhapura prison protesting the transfer of their case to Anuradhapura court from Vavuniya court have refused the request of six NPC members, who visited them yesterday.

The members explained to the TPPs regarding action taken on TPPs demand. They also pointed out that the affair of the TPPs have been made into a resolution and sent for the attention of the president. They also said that they taking all possible action on this matter. They assured that their efforts will continue and requested the TPPs to consider giving up the fast.

But the TPPs have made clear to the MPcs that their struggle is not for reduction in sentence or release. The A’pura courts is run by 100% Sinhalese. Our Tamil lawyers are reluctant to appear in A’Pura Court. As we do not speak Sinhala, we are unable to speak for ourselves. Their case should be taken up in Vavuniya court as it was done so far. We are not going to give up the fast until it is done so, they had said.

C.V.K. Sivagnanam Sivajilingam, Ananthy Saseetharan, Sathiyalingam, Sugirthanand Thavanathan were the MPcs who visited the TPPs.
