When there are traces of irrigation being undertaken, how could Aanaivilunthan lands be belong to Forest Department, queries Sritharan
Former MP, for TNA, S.Sritharan said yesterday that appropriate action will be taken with regard to the paddy fields of people of Aanaivilunthan in Kilinochchi.
He held a meeting with the people of Aanaivilunthan yesterday and he assured as above in this meeting.
People were settled in Aanaivilunthan with 2 acres granted to each family. Following the displacement due to war, their lands now found with large trees overgrown their lands. Now the Forest department is claiming these lands and hindering the agricultural activities of Aanaivilunthan people.
Traces of irrigation structures are found in these lands, but the Forest Department is refusing to release these lands for cultivation.
This problem had been taken to the attention of the Prime Minister, Mahindha Rajapakse and he had promised to give a solution soon, said he.
