Traditional Patti Pongal in Thampalakamam

The Tamil traditional Patti Pongal, a ceremony portraying gratitude to cows, was held in a grand manner in the agricultural village of Thampalakamam in Trincomalee district. Rituals of bathing the cows that toil in their paddy fields, anointing them with pottu, garlanding them and finally worshiping them took place in many homes.

Pati Pongal was also celebrated in Vavuniya at Rambaikkulam Nakapooshani Amman temple last Saturday, organised by Vavuniya Hindy Priests association.
