Twin City Agreement signed between the City of Jaffna and City of Kingston in London

A historically important Twin City Agreement was signed between the City of Jaffna and the City of Kingston, London, yesterday, Tuesday evening in the Kingston Municipal Chamber.

The Northern Province Chief Minister, C.V.Wigneswaran and the Leader of the House of Kingston Council, Kevin Davis have signed in this Agreement.

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka  for the UK , Ms.AmariWijewardene, the Councillors of Kingston and a large number of Tamil People living in the UK, by invitation participated in this event held at the Kingston Municipal Council Chamber.

The VIPs who spoke in this event praised that through this Agreement, Jaffna  will acquire several benefits and that this is the first international Agreement, signed by the city of Jaffna.

The Chief Minister of Northern Province delivering the key address in this event expressed optimism that under this agreement projects could be undertaken in several sectors and that using this opportunity the Tamil Diaspora will make constructive contributions.

Meanwhile, condemning that more than 150,000 army personnel continue to occupy the Northern Province, the Chief Minister also accused that they have disseised several thousand acres of land and creating hindrance to Development activities.
