UN went wrong with regard to Tamils: points out the CM to UN official in charge of development

The NPC CM, C.V.Wigneswaran said yesterday that he pointed out to the Officer in Charge of UN Development Activities, that if the UN had acted efficiently in the affairs of Tamils, several thousands of them would not have got killed.

Commenting on the meeting the CM said that the officer informed him that the activities of various sections of UN are going on in different direction and  he had been tasked by the General Secretary of the UN to coordinate these activities.

I pointed out that the UN is acting without understanding and without consciousness. The UN is still working in conjunction with only the central Government. This I said this is un-acceptable. Already, the central Government has excluded the Provincial Government and doing things as it wishes. It does not consult in things connected to NP. This is causing much inquietude, I said.

He said in reply that that will not happen again.

I insisted that the UN should rectify this situation in the future and work in conjunction with the Provincial Council.  Particularly, I told him that if the UN had intervened in the activities of the Government in the year 2009, it could have saved Thousands of people from being killed. I have told him that UN should not make such a mistake again, said the CM.
