Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that the United Nations (UN) will continue to press for accountability in Sri Lanka over incidents related to the alleged war crimes.
“I think we’ll have United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča go to Sri Lanka, meet with President Sirisena and other officials, and we can see from there what the results of his discussions are. But certainly we have always called for accountability and he’ll continue to press for that,” Farhan Haq said.
The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs is in Sri Lanka on a four-day official visit. The visit follows recent discussions between the Secretary-General and President Sirisena on the margins of the General Assembly high-level meetings in New York.
