Underground Bunker supposed to be used by LTTE discovered while clearing land

An underground bunker was discovered yesterday in Arasarkerny in Palai. This bunker came into view while the owner of the land was clearing his land.

The bunker is believed to have been used by the LTTE. The Army was informed of the detection of the bunker. The Army undertook examination of the area, and said action will be taken to remove the bunker and instructed the owner not to undertake any work until the bunker is removed.

K.Thursothanan, a member of the Pachchilaipalli PS who came to the spot indicated that, as the bottom of the bunker is of rectangular shape, and if it is cleared, it could be used to soak coconut husk for production of coir and requested that the bunker be destroyed completely. It is learnt that the Army has favourably replied for his request, it is learnt.
