The Jaffna High Court Judge, Ilancheliyan yesterday directed the police yesterday to bring into control all Sword attack incidents and gang fighting and bring to book the masterminds behind these incidents, which had grown up to a level of challenging the law and order. The Judge called up the Senior DIG, NP, and issued the direction to him.
Following the increase in recent days of sword attack incidents, the Judge had organized a meeting in the Court Complex. State counselor, Nagaratnam Nishanth, SDIG, NP, Palitha Fernando, DIG, Jaffna District,Roshan Fernando, SSP Seneviratne, SP, Ambepitiya and the OIC, HQ Police Station, Jaffna, IP, Hemawitharana participated in this meeting.
In this meeting the Judge instructed to use all units of the police to contain the sword attack culture which had grown into a threat to Law and Order. Meanwhile the Judge adjourned granting bail to sword attack suspects. State Counsel also strongly opposed granting bail to sword attack suspects.
Sword attack and gang fighting incidents have increased in Jaffna. The routine life of people is badly affected. They are spending the life in fright. In this context bail should not be granted he said in case of bail application on behalf of 3 suspects, connected to having grenade in possession, 6 cases of sword attacks, and murder case.
