Unrest at Periya Paranthan, Kilinochchi as water supply  for Sirupokam stopped

Unrest prevailed at Periyaparanthan due to water supply from Iranaimadu being stopped. Peace was restored after the police intervened and a temporary solution reached.

Around 3,000 acres have been brought under cultivation in the area. The farmers Association of the area has refused issue of water to around 80 acres belonging to a Hindu Temple and cultivated under lease by around 15 families. Further they have taken action to permanently close the water supply channel for this lot. Altercations have occurred between the Farmers Association and the said farmers.

Speeding to the spot, the Police had condemned the adhoc action of the Farmers Association and called both factions to Police station tomorrow for further inquiries.
