The American Ambassador, Alaina B. Teplitz made a visit to Jaffna and met Jaffna Mayo Emmanuel Arnold, and had discussed several matters with him. The Envoy asked about the problems of the people and their political stances.
In reply the Mayor had said that people are in fear because the benefits they hoped to attain through the UN’s resolutions no.30.1 and 40.1 had been thrashed by the loss of absolute majority in October.
The Government is accountable for the Missing persons. TNA is accountable for the missing and they cannot go back on that , because people gave the mandate to TNA for this. It is notable that the Envoy herself said that unless Sri Lanka be granted time and monitoring undertaken, the affair of Sri Lanka would disappear from the agenda of UNHRC.
Finally she asked about the regime change . The Mayor had said that although the situation is little better, there are much to be desired. he had also said that while going towards political solutions, attention should be paid on development and other needs.
David J. McGuire, the Officer for common affaires and SAnthony F. Renzulli , the chief of political section of the Embassy of America and JMC Commissioner were present during the meeting.
