The Chairman of the National Movement for a Just Society, Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, who played a key role in the campaign to defeat the Rajapaksa regime , has passed away at a hospital in Singapore.
Sri Lanka mission in Singapore also says that steps have already been taken to send back remains of Sobitha Thero as soon as possible to Sri Lanka.
He was taken to Singapore last Tuesday for urgent medical treatment.
Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero has been in poor health over the past couple of weeks and was receiving treatment in hospital.
Ven Sobitha, head of the Kotte Naga Viaharaya and chairman of the National Movement for Social Justice. He had been a social activist sensitive to human suffering, dedicated to the well being of all the people particularly of the downtrodden. He led a mass agitation against the previous regime and campaigned for President Sirisena in the presidential election.
