Vihare in Odduchuddan: Human Rights summons Commanding Officer 64D and Army Commander

The Human Rights Commission in Vavuniya is pursuing with inquiries regarding the Vihare constructed in the premises of the 64D, in Odduchuddan. In this context summons have been served on the Commanding Officer of 64D and The Army Commander to be present in the HRC office in Vavuniya, on 25th this month.

A camp of the 64D is located in a private land at Katchchilaimadu on Katchchilaimadu- Puthukudiyiruppu Road. A Buddhist Vihare had been constructed on this land. The Divisional Secretariat had confirmed that the said land is owned by a private person. Amidst much controversy regarding the Vihare the owner had appealed to the HRC to get his land for him.

Subsequently , inquiries had been undertaken, led by the Officer in charge of Vavuniya for HRC and an Attorney at Law , R.L.Vasantharajah and it is reported that the said officers and the owner of the land had been called for inquiries on the 25th.

It is notable that the activities of the Vavuniya HRC have increased in recent times and solutions have been found for complaints of all three races.
