Vijitha Herath demands probe on Mohan Peiris

JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath has stated that his party demands a the setting up of a special commission to investigate the conduct of Mohan Peiris during his tenure as Chief Justice and the damage caused to the judiciary.

He was addressing the House on the debate on the motion moved by the opposition on the CJ issue.

He added that when a government is changed, it is not fair to change the Chief Justice like a CTB Chairman is changed. But Mohan Peiris is not fit for the office of Chief Justice. As Shirani Bandaranayake did not support to rectify the flaw in the 18th Amendment, the then executive took severe measures against her.

He went on that Shirani Bandaranayake was humiliated. She was not even given ample time to express her views. So we left the Parliament Select Committee and boycotted the debate. We struggled against the then Rajapaksa government to protect the dignity of the office of the Chief Justice. We maintained that justice be meted out to Shirani Bandaranayake. The Rajapaksa government was unable to bring in the 18th Amendment and the impeachment motion as well. An impeachment motion was not moved against Shirani Bandaranayake in Parliament.
