Visit of Modi to Jaffna: Security tightened

Indian Air Force Helicopters flew low over Jaffna Town area several times, presumably to have a first hand view of the areas which Mody will be visiting. For a few minutes the air space over Jaffna was filled Helicopter reverberations. Intelligence operatives were massed in and around the areas earmarked for Modi visit. This is the first time that an Indian prime minister is visiting Jaffna and hence, massive security measures are being put into effect. The helicopters landed in central college Grounds after circling over Jaffna.

It is also notable that, all the security arrangements for the Premier’s visit are being undertaken by the Indian Security forces. India has stationed two of its Aircraft carriers, INS Wickramathithya and INS Virad along with – seven Destroyers for high level monitoring during their PM’s visit to Sri Lanka.

During the 3 hrs Modi is to remain in Jaffna, he will not take any food it was reported. Even in the lunch to be given at Governor Secretariat, the food will be checked by an Indian officer before being served to him.  Compared to this, security measures were at a minimum when David Cameron the Prime Minister visited Jaffna in 2013.
