The Judgment of the Pungudutheevu student Murder case is to be delivered on 27th of this month. Speculations are running rife among various factions as to the nature of the judgment. The Pungudutheevu student Sivaloganathan Vithya was abducted while going to school on 2015.05.13, gang raped mercilessly and killed.
This cold blooded murder created much shock and anger among Tamil people living in North and East.
At the outset people of Pungudutheevu engaged in struggles demanding to find out the perpetrators of the barbarous crime. All schools of the Island Sector ground to a stop. The demonstrations calling for justice in the Island sector intensified on a daily basis.
Their sentiments and anger crossed over the sea and infected people of Jaffna. Full day Hartals and struggles started all over Jaffna Peninsula. The whole of Jaffna Peninsula was transformed into a battle field. Struggles spread to all districts of North and East. Demonstrations were held in Colombo and other parts of the country.
The Government tried to establish a Trial at Bar in Colombo. However due to strong protest from all over, a Trial at Bar is appointed to hear the case in Jaffna by a 3- member panel of judges, led by Vavuniya High Court Judge Balendran Sasimahendran and consisting of High Court Judges, Annalingam Premasangar and Manickavasagar Ilancheliyan
All hearing on the case including the summaries of Prosecution and Defence were concluded yesterday. Judges announced that the judgment will be delivered on 27th.
